MANILA, Philippines — Several cities in Metro Manila suspended afternoon classes on Friday due to heavy rains brought by Tropical Depression "Isang" and the intensified southwest monsoon.
In Manila and Pasay, face-to-face classes in all levels were suspended starting 12 p.m. Marikina, San Juan, Navotas, Malabon, Caloocan, Mandaluyong, and Taguig also canceled afternoon classes in all levels, with Mandaluyong implementing modular and asynchronous learning instead. Muntinlupa, Parañaque, and Las Piñas suspended classes for the day.
City officials said the suspensions aimed to protect students from being stranded and to prevent risks in flood-prone areas. Residents were reminded to monitor official advisories and stay alert as heavy rains continue throughout the afternoon.
Authorities urged the public to prioritize safety and follow local government advisories as the storm and southwest monsoon continue to affect the capital region.
